The Maldives has two monsoons, each shaking up the dive scene in its own way. Whether it's the time of year, tide, current, or visibility, every dive brings something different. No matter when you dive, the underwater world is always alive. The reefs are packed with life, Wrasses, Surgeon fish, Trigger fish, Anthias, Gobies, Parrot fish, Bat fish, Clown fish, Groupers, and more. Out in the blue, keep your eyes peeled for Barracudas, Jackfish, Tuna, Wahoo, and even the elusive Merlin.

From January to March, expect crystal-clear waters with visibility pushing 30 meters thanks to those strong North Eastern currents. Then, from April to May, the plankton blooms as the North Eastern Monsoon wraps up, bringing a fresh, bustling energy to the sea. As June and July roll in, the South West Monsoon takes over with Westerly winds and currents, which make the leeward side of the island a dive haven, lasting well into the year.

No matter when you come, diving here is always a good idea, and you’re never far from that next unforgettable encounter. Around the island, the dive spots are as varied as they are plentiful. Head south to “Farikede,” where the ocean drops off into deep blue, or go north to “Hudekede,” a shark and fish cleaning station where currents mix, creating the perfect environment for underwater life to thrive. And let’s not forget the legendary Tiger Shark dive, one of the most popular sites, just a stone's throw from the harbor.

LOCAL TIPS & INFO

Fuvahmulah is easily accessible by domestic flight or speedboat.

✈️ From Male (MLE) :
Take a domestic flight to Fuvahmulah (FVM). Flights operate daily and take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Flight schedule (subject to change):
Male → Fuvahmulah: 15:05 and 23:35
Fuvahmulah → Male: 05:00 and 16:55

🚤 From Addu or Huvadhoo :
Travel by speedboat via the RTL Ferry service. Timings may vary, so check rtl.mv for the latest schedule.

Currency :
The local currency is Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US dollars are widely accepted. There's an ATM on the island for local currency and another at Malé airport for USD.

Payments :
We accept both cash and card. A 3.6% bank fee applies for card payments.

Dress Code :
Fuvahmulah is a local island with no designated bikini beach. Modest clothing like shorts and t-shirts is perfectly fine in public areas.

Connectivity :
Local SIM cards with data can be purchased at the airport. Most guesthouses and cafés offer Wi-Fi.

Transport :
Getting around is easy with scooters or bikes, which can be rented on the island. Taxis are also available.

Culture & Religion :
Fuvahmulah is a Muslim island. Alcohol is not allowed, and public behavior should respect local customs.

Swimming & Snorkeling :
There is no lagoon around the island. If you want to swim, avoid going alone, check the currents, and stay aware of your position.

Language :
The local language is Dhivehi, but English is commonly spoken, especially in tourism.
